Blood of the Covenant

Thursday, January 18, 2018

MATTHEW 26:26-29__Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body."
And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many

for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom." [ESV]

JESUS ONLY USE OF THE WORD ‘COVENANT’ IS WHILE INSTITUTING THIS MEMORIAL.

THE OLD COVENANT WAS INSTALLED USING THE BLOOD OF BULLS. HEBREWS 9:18-22_ Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without

blood. For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses
to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, "This
is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you." And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. (ESV]__

OLD REQUIRED RENEWAL YEARLY, EVEN DAILY:
HEBREWS 10:3 ,4, 11 — But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
11—And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

NOT SO WITH CHRIST’S COVENANT:
HEBREWS 10:12, 14, But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,For by a single off ering he has
perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.
16-18 __"This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,
"then he adds, "I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more."Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

BUT THATS ONLY HALF THE STORY:
THERE ARE TWO COVENANTS UNDER THE OT:

ONE WITH MOSES - THE TEN COMMANDMENTS - AND THE LAW _UNDER THIS THEY WERE FORGIVEN THEIR SINS ....

THE OTHER WITH ABRAHAM- CIRCUMCISION ... WHERE THEIR OWN BLOOD WAS SHED IN ORDER TO BE UNDER THE COVENANT.

GENESIS 17:10, 14 __ This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskins, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. 14 Any uncircumcised male who is not circumcised
in the flesh of his foreskin shall be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."

ONE COULD NOT ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF THE COVENANT OF MOSES UNLESS HE WAS QUALIFIED UNDER THE COVENANT WITH ABRAHAM..

HOW DO WE BECOME A PARTY TO THE COVENANT WITH CHRIST?

BY PARTAKING OF THIS MEMORIAL CUP! — I DON’T THINK SO, THIS IS JUST A REMINDER OF CHRIST’S DEATH, BURIAL & RESURRECTION.

WE NEEDD TO BE UNITED WITH HIM, UNITED WITH HIS DEATH ... UNITED WITH HIS BLOOD ...

We do that by being baptised Romans 6:1-12
